WMARI (Western Maine Addiction Recovery Initiative) is proud to host the 22nd Annual Basics of Substance Use Disorder Conference, bringing together professionals, community members, and individuals in recovery for a full day of learning, connection, and collaboration. Keynote Speaker: Chief Dave Suckling!

This conference offers accessible, community-focused education on the challenges and solutions surrounding substance use disorder. It’s a chance to break down stigma, share knowledge, and build a stronger recovery network in Western Maine. Attendees will hear from leading experts, gain practical insights, and connect with others who are passionate about making a difference.

What to Expect:

• Keynote Presentation by Chief David Suckling from New Hampshire! Chief Suckling’s leadership in community policing, addiction recovery, and officer safety has made him a powerful voice in this work and we are so excited to welcome him to our conference this year!

• An update from the State of Maine’s Director of Opioid Response Gordon Smith – An overview of the state’s ongoing efforts to combat the opioid crisis and reduce overdose deaths.

• The conference will also feature a range of activities and presentations on the topics of substance use disorder, recovery support, and the latest prevention initiatives in our community.

• Personal Stories of Recovery from local individuals sharing their journey and growth.
