LD 1862: An Act to Strengthen Maine’s Good Sam Laws Concerning Drug Related Medical Assistance

Click here for a recent one-pager that explains the difference between Maxmin’s Amendment and the Governor’s.

Most people who witness an overdose want to help, and nearly every opioid overdose can be successfully reversed if naloxone is provided in time. While Maine’s Good Samaritan Law is well-intended, it is limited in its scope of protection. We don’t want those at the scene of an overdose to not call 911 for fear of criminal penalties. LD 1862 expands the current protections to help ensure no witness to an overdose is worried about their own lives while trying to save another.
