PARIS, ME – The Western Maine Addiction Recovery Initiative (WMARI) is thrilled to announce that registration is now open for the much-anticipated 20th Annual Basics of Substance Use Disorder Conference. Themed “Stronger Together: Addiction, Recovery, and Community,” this event is set to take place on March 1st, 2024, from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm at the Paris Fire Department, located at 137 Western Ave, South Paris, ME 04281.

The conference serves as a gateway to the latest information on Substance Use Disorder (SUD) within our community and across the state, emphasizing education, collaboration, and community empowerment. Attendees can expect four distinct presentations featuring compelling speakers such as Dr. Lisa Miller from the Western Maine Comprehensive Addiction Medicine Program, Gordon Smith (Maine’s Director of Opioid Response), individuals sharing their personal recovery experiences, and more.

In addition to fostering discussions on collaborative efforts within the community, the conference will explore innovative approaches to addressing addiction in rural settings with limited resources. Lunch will be provided, creating an opportunity for networking and shared experiences.

The conference has a nominal fee of $15, but scholarships are available to ensure accessibility for all who wish to deepen their understanding of Substance Use Disorder. Thank you to Stephens Memorial Hospital for their sponsorship of this event! Registration is now open and limited to 80 participants. To secure your spot, please visit wmari.org/sudconferenceregistration.

More details about the conference, including the agenda and additional information, will be sent out via email to registered participants prior to the event. If you have any questions please contact WMARI’s Administrative Coordinator at Nikkie@wmari.org.
