September is National Recovery Month, and WMARI and The HILLS Recovery Center are excited to celebrate the journey of recovery and resilience in our community. This month, we are hosting and participating in a diverse array of events to honor and support those in recovery and their families. From an inspiring film screening to exhilarating dragon boating, engaging library discussions, the vibrant Western Maine Recovery Rally, and a fun-filled open mic & karaoke night, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. WMARI & The HILLS Recovery Center Events:

‘Our American Family’ Film Screening – Thursday the 12th, 5:30pm-9pm:

Join us for a free screening of Our American Family on Thursday, September 12th, at 6 PM at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. This documentary offers a moving look at a family’s experience with addiction and recovery, followed by a Q&A with Linda Geraghty, one of the film’s featured family members.

Recovery Outing: Dragon Boating – Saturday the 14th, 10am:

Register now for a thrilling day of dragon boating in Norway, Maine, on Saturday, September 14th, at 10 AM to celebrate National Recovery Month! This fun-filled outing includes paddling on the water, lawn games, lunch, and the chance to fish, offering a supportive space for individuals in recovery and their loved ones to connect and enjoy the outdoors together.

Community Conversations Library Event – Thursday the 19th, 6:30pm-8pm:

Join the Friends of Norway Memorial Library, WMARI, and other local providers for National Recovery Month programs aimed at raising awareness and reducing stigma around substance use disorder. On Thursday, September 19th, from 6:30-8 PM, attend a panel discussion with local healthcare professionals and support specialists to learn about available resources and how to foster recovery in our community.

Western Maine Recovery Rally – Sunday the 22nd, 11am-3pm:

The 8th Annual Western Maine Recovery Rally will be on Sunday, September 22nd, from 11 AM to 3 PM! Starting at The HILLS Recovery Center and ending at Moore Park, this family-friendly event celebrates recovery with a rally march, inspiring speakers, free BBQ lunch, kid-friendly activities, and a touching butterfly memorial to honor Mainer’s who lost their lives to overdose. All are welcome!

Open Mic & Karaoke Night – Saturday the 28th, 5-8pm:

Celebrate the end of National Recovery Month with an evening of music, fun, and community at The HILLS Recovery Center’s Open Mic & Karaoke Night on Saturday, September 28th, from 5-8 PM! Whether you’re a seasoned performer or just want to enjoy the show, this free, 18+ recovery-friendly event is the perfect way to unwind, connect, and share in the healing power of music.
